Virtual walking challenges

A virtual walking challenge is the gentlest way to take on a long-distance route: no pace to hold and no single big day, just walks that add up. Daily steps, a lunchtime loop and a weekend hike all count the same. These are the Route Rally routes that suit walking, shortest first.

How a virtual walking challenge works

Route Rally is a virtual challenge app in which your real walks carry you along long-distance routes. Any walk your phone or watch records counts towards the total, so the school run, a dog walk and a Saturday on the hills all move you along the route. Nothing depends on speed, which is what makes walking the most forgiving way to take on a long route: a steady twenty kilometres a week finishes most National Trails inside a few months. Walk one as a Conquest and the finish is kept for good, a passport stamp for a route you covered in ordinary days rather than one long one.

Times below assume a steady 20 km a week. You set your own finishing date when you create the rally.
